Psst... mr brown, your help's needed. Desperately! (TODAY, 20060406)

Woo-hoo! Now let's see if the letter-writer kenna triple-zapped.

Psst... mr brown, your help's needed. Desperately! Thursday • April 6, 2006 Letter from Goh boon Choo THE Zeus Tech Hominator that comes pre-installed with 90 per cent of Singapore homes has an insidious bug. It's deadlocked into anti-cat mode, and zaps any cat I bring home. Its justification: Avoid fur-shedding, noise and nuisance. Yet it insists I consider small dogs, despite their shedding and endless yapping. Stranger still, I can't understand how its circuits don't fry when it endorses caging birds, while droning on about cats being unsuitable for flats because they roam. I suspect the Hominator has faulty logic, or its knowledge-base missed key upgrades, since its anti-cat information is more than 20 years old and incomplete. The Hominator companion, the TC-16, which maintains the public areas outside Hominator-houses, is similarly plagued. Even a logic fix detailing how cat-zapping is a waste of ammunition and money can't stop most zap-happy TC-16s. Frustratingly, fixed TC-16s tend to short themselves back to cat-zap mode whenever someone whinges or shouts "Anti-cat!". The same happens when management go on their cyclical ground-inspection tours. TC-16s will endeavour to zap every cat in the vicinity, citing cleanliness and environmental concerns. I think TC-16s are just copping out of the logical solution to zap littering and nuisance gadget-sluts. Anyway, I trouble-shot my TC-16 and discovered that only an override from the 'Asta la Vista (AVa) will disable its cat-zap fixation. So I interfaced it with the AVa, and got this message: "TC-16 must initiate request to disable procedure." The Hominator, TC-16 and AVa are obviously faulty: Their logic is hardcoded, making them inflexible, and causing difficulty in applying fixes and upgrades. The lack of reboot and reformat options compound their problems. So now I'm at a loss, mr brown. Could you help this fellow gadget slut make sense of these illogical gadgets?
